Good Stories

Hello, My Readers and Movie Watchers

Happy July 1th. So, whacha reading?  I just finished this, The Lottery and Other Stories by Shirley Jackson. This book is labeled a classic. It's a book of short stories, and the story she's famous for is The Lottery Story.  In some of her short stories, which were written about people in the 40's and 50's. Some of the stories were good, some made you say What heck is she talking about and some left you wanting more. There was one short story can't remember the name of a woman who thought she was getting married. She fussed and fussed all day, and then he ghosted her. That was a good one. another one of her shorts was about a young boy of about 10-12 years of age who brings home for lunch his friends who's African American and the way his mother talks to him and the way the young boy tells the mother in so many words that he is well taken care of by his family. It's also a good one.

The short stories are good and different if you need something to read outside of what you normally read. These stories talk of hope, prejudice. desires, and some crazy stuff that just don't make any sense, but these were the thoughts and actions of people living in the 40s and 50s era. The lottery story, I remembered it being a Twilight Light zone episode. the story was good, its was, great. It was good.

So, if you need short stories to read just to get your mind off what you normally read, I suggest The Lottery and other short stories by Shirley Jackson. and after you read it, tell me what you think about it.

Also, there was a movie that was made about her life and her depression, and her marriage to a man who was a bit off himself.  The move is on Tubi TV. It was pretty good.

Have a great July 4th & read something good for me and share it .

Not What I thought

Hello My Readers & Movie Watchers

Demon's Dream By Ella Kayson I hate to say this, but this is not the books I thought it was. I mean, I didn't get a chance to read it because when it said Demon's Dreams I thought it was about a real demon, not a man named Demon. I know I should have read it fully, but the Amazon reviews were so good. It's probably a good book. But when I got it from the library, the damage to the book made it almost impossible to read. I hate when that happens. Some people just don't take care of books properly. So, I passed. But if you have read the book tell me your thoughts. Love to hear them.

It Was Alright

Hello, My Book Lovers and Movie Watchers

Happy June 1st. This book, Stalker 2, a continuation of Stalker by Brenda Hampton, was alright.  It's about Abby's breakout from jail and how she makes herself over to go after Brent. Who she feels ruined her life and that of many others. After finding out what really happened to her daughter, this pushes her over the edge to find and kill Brent.  But before she does that, she finds out what he has been up to regarding the women he sleeps with. There are some twists and turns and shocking stuff in this series. But to me, overall, it was an ok read, not as good as the first story, but good enough to finish the story. The characters are good, but some of the situations are somewhat unbelievable. Her gay character in the story is funny, and Brent is a total dog. But overall, I have read better from this author. If you have read this let me know what you think.

So, what are you reading this month?

Worth Watching

Hello My Book Readers and Movie Watchers

This is a nice Romance. I might want one of these kinds of movies.  It's off the book by the same name  The Shape of Water by Daniel Kraus. I watched the DVD last night, and it was nicely done. I might read the book, not sure yet. Anyway, it's about a mute woman named Elsa who's in her early 30s. She works the night shift as a cleaning woman in a research lab in the early 60's.  She is lonely. Has a set routine that she does every day until she meets a fishman. (That's what I call him anyway) Who she connects with. The story goes on from there about their meeting, the cruelty the fishman endures, and her helping him escape. With the help of her gay neighbor and a co-worker.

The story is of determination, finding love when you least expect it, and overcoming obstacles. While finding true love in strange places.  while dealing with differences from such love. The only thing I disliked was about the movie the way people were treated in that era.

So, if you have seen the movie or read the books, what are your thoughts on it? What are you reading this month? Share, I might want to read it too.

                                                            Happy Reading

Love My Stalker Books

Hello, My Readers & Movie Watchers.

I'm a fan of stalker books. So, sue me. I just like reading about the crazy stuff sometimes. That way, I read a few dark romances, which are the next level up in what crazy people do when they stalk someone. anyway, this book, Stalker by Brenda Hampton, is a good read. It's about a woman named Abby who's fed up with men coming after coming off a crazy divorce. From a guy who really doesn't care about anything. Not even his daughter. Abby swears off men until she meets Brent. Who's attractive, funny, and a nice catch. She falls for Brent hard. Their relationship lasted about a year, with Brent doing all the right things. Then he tells her it's over. which sends Abby into a tailspin of stalking him because she couldn't walk away from him without getting revenge on him for breaking her heart. There is more to the story, a lot of crazy stuff Abby does to Brent, and the way she neglects her 16-year-old daughter. Besides other things. The story is a good read a lot of twists and turns and good character development. Be aware that there is a part 2 to this story, but it's not necessary if you don't want to read it.  The first story ends in a way you don't really need to read part 2 if you don't want to. I will be reviewing the second part of this story Staker 2 by Brenda Hampton, when I read it.

So, what are you reading today?

This Was Good

Hello, my Book Readers and Movie Watchers.

Let me start by saying that this book, The Reason Why, was a good one to read. It was written by Vickie Stringer. It's about a middle-class girl named Pam who excelled in her studies and got a scholarship to a college in Ohio. Her parents are middle-class and wanted only the best for their daughter. She wanted for nothing growing up. All they asked of her was to get good grades and finish college. But being away at school, she meets a guy named Chino, and her world is turned upside down. Mind you, she's about 17 years old and Chino's around early 20s, who happens to be a street kid that sells drugs in Ohio. They meet and sparks fly. Pam does stuff for Chino when he becomes to love of her life. She goes against all her dreams and hopes just to be with him. He pushes her to her limits. You have to realize they are both young and immature in a lot of ways. The things he promises and the way he acts. The way she acts. these are immature people trying to play adults. The characters in the story were good, the plot kept you interested the ending was Wow. I must warn you, there is a second book about what happens after the last book. which I will be reviewing for you once I read it. The last part of their crazy story, Pam and Chino's, is called Imagine This by Vickie.

This story is worth reading, it shows what not to do as a young female in love for the first time. Good lesson and good book. So, what are you reading today?

Love her book but this One?

Hello, My Book Lover and Movie Watchers

Happy May 1st. Well, I tried to read this book, Second House From The Corner by Sadeqa Johnson. This is the author who wrote the Yellow Wife, which was so good. This book is about a woman named Felicia . Who tried to be the perfect wife, mother,, and neighbor. Because of the issues in her past which she blames herself for. She's a stay-at-home mom who a sometimes an actress. She tries desperately to fit in with the neighbor and the organizations that it has. He wanted to be accepted by her neighbors. When her past started to catch up to her, she made one bad decision after another, leading to a major crisis. She eventually has to go home to deal with her past before she can forgive herself and move on. This was just the basics of the story that I could not read. I got to chapter five and had to put it down. The character Felicia I found to be a little too passive at times. Always looking for acceptance. I am sure the book is good, but it just wasn't my kinda story. if you have read it, what do you think?

                                                          Happy Reading
