Hello, My Readers and Movie Watchers
Happy July 1th. So, whacha reading? I just finished this, The Lottery and Other Stories by Shirley Jackson. This book is labeled a classic. It's a book of short stories, and the story she's famous for is The Lottery Story. In some of her short stories, which were written about people in the 40's and 50's. Some of the stories were good, some made you say What heck is she talking about and some left you wanting more. There was one short story can't remember the name of a woman who thought she was getting married. She fussed and fussed all day, and then he ghosted her. That was a good one. another one of her shorts was about a young boy of about 10-12 years of age who brings home for lunch his friends who's African American and the way his mother talks to him and the way the young boy tells the mother in so many words that he is well taken care of by his family. It's also a good one.
The short stories are good and different if you need something to read outside of what you normally read. These stories talk of hope, prejudice. desires, and some crazy stuff that just don't make any sense, but these were the thoughts and actions of people living in the 40s and 50s era. The lottery story, I remembered it being a Twilight Light zone episode. the story was good, its was, great. It was good.
So, if you need short stories to read just to get your mind off what you normally read, I suggest The Lottery and other short stories by Shirley Jackson. and after you read it, tell me what you think about it.
Also, there was a movie that was made about her life and her depression, and her marriage to a man who was a bit off himself. The move is on Tubi TV. It was pretty good.
Have a great July 4th & read something good for me and share it .
