Happy Sunday

Hello, My Readers & Movie Watchers

Happy Sunday, today's review will be on the movie Words On A Bathroom Wall. It's about a teenage boy who has some mental health issues and the girl he meets who helps him cope.  The book Supreme Clientele By Ashley Jaquavis is a good book about love, cheating, and backstabbing all for personal gain. My kind of book. Here are my thoughts on both...

K'Wan Foye: Speaking about Writing and Publishing Urban Fiction

Hello, My Readers And Movie  Watchers

If you don't know this author, his name is K'wan and he writes urban fiction that is so realistic. It's not your average urban fiction book. He brings real-life situations that go deeper than the normal urban fiction stories. Yes, his books have drama, crime and some are funny, but there is so much more to them than that. Read one or two, and you will see what I'm talking about. Don't forget, if you're reading something good, I want to read it to share it with me. Please..   Here are some books Kwan has written. If you need suggestions, both were very good.

Hello, My Book Readers and Movie Watchers

Happy July, keeping cool, I hope. Here's the book for the week: Foolish by Anna Black. I will be honest, I couldn't read it. Not saying it was a bad book, but it just didn't hold my interest for long. But I will tell you the basics of the story. it's about a woman named November who meets a guy named Tracy. They start off good and end up getting married.  Then the ugly side of Tracy shows up. Did I mention he was handsome, well off, and all that? Well, anyway, the ugly side of him comes out; he's a control freak and dominating. But there's a story of why he's like that. Which I won't tell you if you want to read the book. The characters, from what I read, were good, and the storyline good. It just didn't hold my interest. Maybe I need to re-read it. if you have read it, share your thoughts on what you think about the story.
Also, what are you reading now? I might want to read it too. Come on and share it with me...

A Novella

                                                     https://amzn.to/4oON8MI    (amazon)

Hello, My Book Lovers and Movie Watchers

What are you reading today?   Finding Forever by Keisha Ervin is what you call a novella; it's less than 200 pages, and I got this book for two reasons. First, I wanted to see how to write a novella because I want to start writing books like this. Second, I like urban romance. So, I will be killing two birds with one stone with this book, but... This book, in my opinion, is not that good. Here's why the story is about two people, Whitney & Koran; they were teenage lovers. Koran thought he would be with Whiney forever, but she walked out on him with no explanation. Fast forward eight years, they are in their mid-20s, Koran is a drug dealer who has a small army of young boys working for him, selling drugs on the corner. He personally trained, and Whitney is back home, going to college. To get her PhD. They meet by accident again, and they pick up where they left off. Koran keeps pushing her to find out why she left him when they were teenagers. It broke his heart when she did that. Whitney pushes back by lying to him about why she left him. Which causes tension in their so-called relationship. Also, one of the problems they have is that Korean has an ex-girlfriend who can't accept its over between them even though Korean keeps using her for sex, He also stays in the picture because of her son. That's not his, but he raised him, so he felt like it was his and treats the boy like is own son.

Anyway, the characters in the story are not strong enough, meaning that one minute Whiney wants to be just friends with Koran, and the next minute she's telling him how much she loves him.  Also, Koran is a drug pusher, but he's not that strong a leader. He's more of a pushover when it comes to ruling. His ex-girlfriend runs over him along with the guys who work for him. Trina is not letting Koran go, even though she was the one who cheated on him. The story overall was too confusing and too much wishy-washy dialogue, and the plot was not that good. I was hoping for better.

For these characters to be older, they still acted like children, in my opinion. I had to stop reading this story. Which made me disappointed because I wanted to know what happened in the end. If you have read this book and finished this story. Let me know what your thoughts were on it.

This Movie was so Goo Had To Share..

Hello, My Readers and Movie Watchers..

This movie The Restaurant, had so many good actors in it. It was a good story about relationships and life in general, all set in a New Jersey restaurant. If this were a book, I would be reading and reviewing it.

                                                                 Happy Reading...

So So Good

Hello, My book Readers and Movie Watchers

Happy July. So, what are you reading today?  Sycamore Row by John Grisham is so good. It's about a wealthy businessman named Seth who leaves the bulk of his estate, 22 million dollars, to his housekeeper, Lettie. Some of it he leaves to his brother and the church.  Seth is dying and takes his own life, but before then, he leaves an extensive will with instructions. He wants Jack the lawyer in this small town to execute it.  Seth doesn't leave a dime to his daughter or son, and they will fight to the end to get their hands on his money. In the book, you find out the problems Seth's daughter and his son are going through. Also, the story takes place in 1989 in a small town in Mississippi, where race relations have not improved much.

This is a story of a lawyer who had to peel back the layers of a will with people fighting trying to get a piece of the money pie.  You are also dealing with the lawyers, Jack's personal issues. Which makes a good story. The ending is the reason why Seth left most of his money to Lettie will make you feel that there are people in this world who try to right the wrongs. That has been done in this world.   It's a good story of mystery, justice, suspense, and greed.  I love a Good Grisham book, don't you? The characters in this book are well thought out, as well as the twists and turns of the story. If you need something long and good to read, this is the book for you.

Good Stories

Hello, My Readers and Movie Watchers

Happy July 1th. So, whacha reading?  I just finished this, The Lottery and Other Stories by Shirley Jackson. This book is labeled a classic. It's a book of short stories, and the story she's famous for is The Lottery Story.  In some of her short stories, which were written about people in the 40's and 50's. Some of the stories were good, some made you say What heck is she talking about and some left you wanting more. There was one short story can't remember the name of a woman who thought she was getting married. She fussed and fussed all day, and then he ghosted her. That was a good one. another one of her shorts was about a young boy of about 10-12 years of age who brings home for lunch his friends who's African American and the way his mother talks to him and the way the young boy tells the mother in so many words that he is well taken care of by his family. It's also a good one.

The short stories are good and different if you need something to read outside of what you normally read. These stories talk of hope, prejudice. desires, and some crazy stuff that just don't make any sense, but these were the thoughts and actions of people living in the 40s and 50s era. The lottery story, I remembered it being a Twilight Light zone episode. the story was good, its was, great. It was good.

So, if you need short stories to read just to get your mind off what you normally read, I suggest The Lottery and other short stories by Shirley Jackson. and after you read it, tell me what you think about it.

Also, there was a movie that was made about her life and her depression, and her marriage to a man who was a bit off himself.  The move is on Tubi TV. It was pretty good.

Have a great July 4th & read something good for me and share it .

Not What I thought

Hello My Readers & Movie Watchers

Demon's Dream By Ella Kayson I hate to say this, but this is not the books I thought it was. I mean, I didn't get a chance to read it because when it said Demon's Dreams I thought it was about a real demon, not a man named Demon. I know I should have read it fully, but the Amazon reviews were so good. It's probably a good book. But when I got it from the library, the damage to the book made it almost impossible to read. I hate when that happens. Some people just don't take care of books properly. So, I passed. But if you have read the book tell me your thoughts. Love to hear them.

Hello, My Book Lovers and Movie Watchers

Happy June 1st. This book, Stalker 2, a continuation of Stalker by Brenda Hampton, was alright.  It's about Abby's breakout from jail and how she makes herself over to go after Brent. Who she feels ruined her life and that of many others. After finding out what really happened to her daughter, this pushes her over the edge to find and kill Brent.  But before she does that, she finds out what he has been up to regarding the women he sleeps with. There are some twists and turns and shocking stuff in this series. But to me, overall, it was an ok read, not as good as the first story, but good enough to finish the story. The characters are good, but some of the situations are somewhat unbelievable. Her gay character in the story is funny, and Brent is a total dog. But overall, I have read better from this author. If you have read this let me know what you think.

So, what are you reading this month?

Worth Watching

Hello My Book Readers and Movie Watchers

This is a nice Romance. I might want one of these kinds of movies.  It's off the book by the same name  The Shape of Water by Daniel Kraus. I watched the DVD last night, and it was nicely done. I might read the book, not sure yet. Anyway, it's about a mute woman named Elsa who's in her early 30s. She works the night shift as a cleaning woman in a research lab in the early 60's.  She is lonely. Has a set routine that she does every day until she meets a fishman. (That's what I call him anyway) Who she connects with. The story goes on from there about their meeting, the cruelty the fishman endures, and her helping him escape. With the help of her gay neighbor and a co-worker.

The story is of determination, finding love when you least expect it, and overcoming obstacles. While finding true love in strange places.  while dealing with differences from such love. The only thing I disliked was about the movie the way people were treated in that era.

So, if you have seen the movie or read the books, what are your thoughts on it? What are you reading this month? Share, I might want to read it too.

Love My Stalker Books

Hello, My Readers & Movie Watchers.

I'm a fan of stalker books. So, sue me. I just like reading about the crazy stuff sometimes. That way, I read a few dark romances, which are the next level up in what crazy people do when they stalk someone. anyway, this book, Stalker by Brenda Hampton, is a good read. It's about a woman named Abby who's fed up with men coming after coming off a crazy divorce. From a guy who really doesn't care about anything. Not even his daughter. Abby swears off men until she meets Brent. Who's attractive, funny, and a nice catch. She falls for Brent hard. Their relationship lasted about a year, with Brent doing all the right things. Then he tells her it's over. which sends Abby into a tailspin of stalking him because she couldn't walk away from him without getting revenge on him for breaking her heart. There is more to the story, a lot of crazy stuff Abby does to Brent, and the way she neglects her 16-year-old daughter. Besides other things. The story is a good read a lot of twists and turns and good character development. Be aware that there is a part 2 to this story, but it's not necessary if you don't want to read it.  The first story ends in a way you don't really need to read part 2 if you don't want to. I will be reviewing the second part of this story Staker 2 by Brenda Hampton, when I read it.

So, what are you reading today?

This Was Good

Hello, my Book Readers and Movie Watchers.

Let me start by saying that this book, The Reason Why, was a good one to read. It was written by Vickie Stringer. It's about a middle-class girl named Pam who excelled in her studies and got a scholarship to a college in Ohio. Her parents are middle-class and wanted only the best for their daughter. She wanted for nothing growing up. All they asked of her was to get good grades and finish college. But being away at school, she meets a guy named Chino, and her world is turned upside down. Mind you, she's about 17 years old and Chino's around early 20s, who happens to be a street kid that sells drugs in Ohio. They meet and sparks fly. Pam does stuff for Chino when he becomes to love of her life. She goes against all her dreams and hopes just to be with him. He pushes her to her limits. You have to realize they are both young and immature in a lot of ways. The things he promises and the way he acts. The way she acts. these are immature people trying to play adults. The characters in the story were good, the plot kept you interested the ending was Wow. I must warn you, there is a second book about what happens after the last book. which I will be reviewing for you once I read it. The last part of their crazy story, Pam and Chino's, is called Imagine This by Vickie.

This story is worth reading, it shows what not to do as a young female in love for the first time. Good lesson and good book. So, what are you reading today?

                                                            Happy Reading

Love her book but this One?

Hello, My Book Lover and Movie Watchers

Happy May 1st. Well, I tried to read this book, Second House From The Corner by Sadeqa Johnson. This is the author who wrote the Yellow Wife, which was so good. This book is about a woman named Felicia . Who tried to be the perfect wife, mother,, and neighbor. Because of the issues in her past which she blames herself for. She's a stay-at-home mom who a sometimes an actress. She tries desperately to fit in with the neighbor and the organizations that it has. He wanted to be accepted by her neighbors. When her past started to catch up to her, she made one bad decision after another, leading to a major crisis. She eventually has to go home to deal with her past before she can forgive herself and move on. This was just the basics of the story that I could not read. I got to chapter five and had to put it down. The character Felicia I found to be a little too passive at times. Always looking for acceptance. I am sure the book is good, but it just wasn't my kinda story. if you have read it, what do you think?

                                                          Happy Reading

Read Twice

Hello, My Book Lover and Movie Watchers

Second time around for this book for me.  You know how you read a book and say this sounds familiar, but you keep reading it anyway. Well, that's what happened to me with this book.  The book She Had It Coming by Mary Monroe. Don't sleep on Mary's books she writes some good stories. This story was about two foster care kids Dolores and  Flyod who grew up on the same block with their different foster families.  They grew to love each other. Then Floyd is accused of a crime that sends him to jail for life. Doroles sticks with him through the ordeal while pursuing a life of her own.  She also has to deal with keeping her best friends secret which is slowly killing both of them.

The story She Had It Coming is a tale of a woman who has to deal with so many issues in her friendships and personal life. It's a good read and it will keep you wanting more. That's why I read it twice you can never go wrong with a Mary Monroe book. Good story, character development, and plot.

Back In the day Books

                                                        https://amzn.to/47EtOvy (amazon)

Hello, My Book Readers and Movie Watchers.

If you need a dose of reality or a good cry, then read one of Donald Goines books. In his book Inner City Hoodlum it is about three teenage boys trying to survive the best way they know how. Without the help of adult supervision, they rob train cars to make a living. In the process of that, they have to deal with protecting a younger sister from the hands of a pimp and numbers runner, trying not to get caught and go to jail, and all the other frustrations and challenges from being young and on your own. Donald Gones has a way of writing about the lives of young people that's gritty, realistic, and pulls at your heart. I loved reading his books. I used to read them when I was in high school; they will make you laugh or cry or do both. The characters are well-developed, and the story is a quick read that will pull you in from the first page. Don't sleep on Donald Goines books they are just that good. After I finish one of his book, I always say Damn you, Donald, for making me cry once again.

Love My Drama Books

Hello, My Book Readers and Movie Watchers

What are you reading today? Since I read a lot of monster/stalker romance books. Sometimes I need to read some good drama to go with it.  When A N Catches Feelings by Jessica Watkins. This book has so much drama, I read it in two days. It's about, two best friends, Heaven and  Treasure, who end up with hood guys.  Heaven meets Ross, an older street hustler in the game. She feels he's her protector and has taken her away from a horrible life. So she stays loyal to him even though he does some crazy stuff to her.  She takes a lot of stuff from him all to keep a roof over her head, her sisters, and her daughter that she had when she was younger. Then you have Treasure and Vegas who have their own problems. Treasure is young and wants her cake and eat it while Vegas is a good guy who treats Treasure like a queen.  Their story is about you don't know how good you got it until you lose it theory.  I loved me some Vegas in this story.  Don't forget to get Part Two When the side N Catches Feeling part 2  By Jessica Watkins because he ending to this story is explosive and well deserved. There are more characters to add to the couple's mix, which makes this story so good and will keep you reading to the wee hours of the morning just to finish it.

Good job Jessica Watkins, you gave me just what I needed, enough drama to satisfy me- Thank you.

Not Good

Hello, My Readers & Movie Watchers

Happy belated Valentine's Day. I tried to read Country Boy by Allen Little, but can I tell you I couldn't get past page five? It made no sense. First, it was about this guy named Q and how all these women want in and how picky he is. In the book, he wants the women who are with him to prove their loyalty to him.  It's about hood love, jealousy, and friendship/ But I just couldn't get past the first few pages. Maybe you can if you have read it let me know your thoughts. It had good reviews on amazon that's why I even thought about reading it.

Not For Me

Hello, My Readers and Movie Watchers.

I just couldn't get into the book Burning Season By KiKi Swinson. It was too silly and the plot made no sense to me. It was about Virginia volunteer fire fighters Alayna and her brother Alonzo They are very close and work for the Virginia Beach fire department.  They both do some shady stuff to make extra money. Besides Alayna slept with a married firefighter. This story just wasn't it for me. The character development was good, but the story plot was not to my liking. There is suspense and craziness you might like. I think if I read 5 chapters in this book it was a lot. If you have read it, then let me know what you think. I have read some of her other books and they were pretty good. this one is not so much.

                                                           Happy Reading

Putting it Down

Hello, My Readers and Movie Watchers

Well, what are you reading today? When My Soul Met a Thug by Jessica Watkins. I just couldn't read it. It's about?? It's about a woman named True she married to what she thought was the right man good job, loving caring, family kind of man but that wasn't the case.   They have a daughter together. He ends up leaving her because he felt he was tricked into marrying her in the first place. True goes on to live her life since she was about 25 after her divorce doing things like enjoying men. That she didn't get to do because she married young. She meets a street hustler, Coop, and they have a back-and-forth kind of relationship. Coop is a hot mess thinking he's god's gift to women and treats them like that.  There is a mystery around True I think she is sick in some way the story kind of beats around with that part. This book I just couldn't get into for some reason. It didn't hold my interest for long too many what the hell for me and not in a good way. Now I love Jessica Watkins other books but this one not so much.

Good Book

Hello My Readers & Movie Watchers

It's cold, snowy and time to read some good books. Here's one that I recommend, well really two that are good reads for the winter. The Cause & Cure Is You Book 1&2 . by  Jessica Watkins ( good author by the way) It's about an unlikely romance that cannot happen with a touch of paranormal in the mix, The characters are funny and well-developed.  This book will make you laugh, talk to it out loud, and root for the couple. It's good but you have to read both because where one ends the other begins. This is more than just your average urban fiction it's a true love story with unbeatable circumstances for the two individuals involved. ( You probably can get these at your local library)
